The Warmth of the Islands
A storefront installation capturing a trip to Maracas Beach, combining digital printing, woodworking, and silkscreen techniques

About This Installation
I created a storefront installation capturing a trip to Maracas Beach. The backdrop was printed in the digital lab, while the chair was built in the woodshop. I used silkscreen to add images onto the towel, and also included authentic Caribbean elements.
This installation explores the concept of "liming"—the Caribbean art of relaxing and enjoying life's simple pleasures. Through the strategic placement of everyday objects and the interplay of light and shadow, the work creates a space where viewers can momentarily escape into the warmth and serenity of island life.
Each element has been thoughtfully designed and positioned to evoke memories of lazy afternoons under the Caribbean sun, where time moves slowly and the gentle breeze carries the scent of salt air and tropical flowers.

Exploring the individual components that create this immersive Maracas Beach experience

The Handcrafted Chair
Built in the woodshop, this beach chair serves as the centerpiece of the installation. Its construction embodies the craftsmanship and attention to detail that reflects the authentic Caribbean experience of relaxation at Maracas Beach.

The Silkscreened Towel
Using silkscreen techniques, I added images onto the towel that capture the essence of the beach experience. This textile element bridges traditional printmaking with contemporary installation art, creating a tactile connection to the Maracas Beach memory.

The Digital Backdrop
Printed in the digital lab, this backdrop recreates the stunning vista of Maracas Beach. The high-quality digital printing process allows for precise color reproduction, bringing the vibrant blues and tropical atmosphere directly into the gallery space.
